The Uprooted Fine Art Print Series
These beautiful fine art prints form part of the Uprooted Series, by South African born artist, Sue Gray.
Sue Gray is a self-taught artist who was born in South Africa and has been living in Singapore since 2007. She is a still-life painter whose hyper-realistic form reflects themes of quality, honesty and simplicity. The slow-drying nature of oil paint is necessary to create a precisely-matched palette of colours that bring the objects on the canvas to life.
Returning to Singapore from trips back to her home country, Sue always brought back numerous aloes and succulents to be used in her paintings. Aloes and succulents can live with their roots out of the ground and this body of work was borne of the notion that expats, although uprooted from their home countries, remain alive and beautiful. 100% of the proceeds of the Uprooted series of paintings goes to African based charities. The proceeds from the first release of this series is dedicated to Eyes2Eyes and Ladles of Love. Sue will be adding to this collection as she comes across interesting indigent plants as inspiration.

Eyes2Eyes is a South African registered NGO, established to assist indigent patients with cornea disease. The organisation works with people battling eyesight loss from cornea disease. Their funds are directed to providing highly customized scleral contact lenses to patients with irregular corneas, giving them the gift of sight. Eyes2Eyes is also on a mission to purchase the first ophthalmic confocal microscope for the Western Cape, to facilitate the early detection of debilitating cornea disease. Early detection means early intervention and can save someone from going blind. Fees from the use of the Confocal Microscope are directed into the scleral lens programme, making this a truly sustainable initiative. In South Africa, patients awaiting cornea transplants wait many years for cornea tissue, as much of this is brought in from donors abroad at great expense. The organisation is actively promoting the procurement of cornea tissue in South Africa through their fund raising initiatives and social media campaigns. Ladles of Love
Ladles of Love started out as a soup kitchen, feeding the homeless and in March 2020, mushroomed into a large scale operation. In addition to our soup kitchen on Roeland Street, we use funds raised via kind donations and funding to purchase bulk produce and non-perishables which are sent out to an estimated 138 primary beneficiaries within Cape Town. These beneficiaries are local community soup kitchens that use these items to make food which is served within their community. In addition to this, Ladles of Love operates a sandwich drive by sending out lovingly made sandwiches to our beneficiaries and also creates small food parcels for individuals in need, when we have sufficient donations. Visit their website, www.ladlesoflove.org.za to see how they are feeding the nation.
Sunday Girl is proud to support South Africa’s finest artistic talent and wherever possible, we utilize projects providing employment and skills development in our beautiful country. From local women leaning to sew, to woodworkers carving our napkin rings, we love seeing positive change in people’s lives. Beautiful gifts and decor delivered to your door.
